SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College softball team split games with Rochester, winning the first game 4-0 and dropping the second 9-6, on Senior Day at Alexander Field.

Game one: Union 4, Rochester 0

Sophomore pitcher
Makayla Koehler boasted a complete game shutout as the Dutchwomen earned a 4-0 win. She struck out three batters and only yielded a trio hits to capture her seventh victory of the season in the circle.

The deadlock was broken in the bottom of the third inning when senior
Dana Dolinko drive in first-year
Julissa Malana with a double to right. In the sixth, first-year
Julia Boule, Koehler, and Malana each drove in runs in the sixth inning to wrap up the contest.

Game two: Rochester 9, Union 6

Koehler led the Dutchwomen with three RBIs in a 9-6 losing effort. Senior
Kelsey Hartsoe hit her first career home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, while classmate
Kim Puzo notched a pair of hits in their last home game.

Union fell behind by two runs in the first, but Puzo drove in sophomore
Stuart Buxton with a sac fly to center field to trim the Yellowjacket lead to 2-1 after the opening inning.

After the visitors regained their two-run lead the next inning, Malana brought the Dutchwomen within a run once again after her double to right center plated Koehler. Rochester added another run in the third, then Koehler leveled the score with a 2 RBI triple that scored Boule and first-year
Lindsey Podlaski.

With the Dutchwomen trailing 5-4 in the fourth, Koehler reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Puzo to score and tie the game. The Yellowjackets responded with four-unanswered runs to take a 9-5 lead into the seventh inning. Hartsoe knocked a homerun over the fence in left field, but the Rochester lead proved too much.
