Gerrato's Big Day Leads Women's Lax Past Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore Lindsay Gerrato scored a team-high five goals and controlled a game-best 14 draws to lead the Union College women's lacrosse team to a 16-11 comeback victory over Stevens Institute of Technology in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Gerrato had an excellent day for Union (4-3) with her season-best five tallies, and she was helped along by three goals and an assist from senior Kellie Cronin. Seniors Ramsey Walsh and Julia Pfohl added two goals and an assist apiece for the Dutchwomen as well.

The game did not start well for the Dutchwomen, as Union fell behind 6-1 with 9:12 remaining in the first half thanks to five goals from SIT's Kyra Bednarski. But the visitors managed to stem the tide somewhat before the half, getting a goal from senior Hannah Rosenberger and Cronin's second of the day to cut the deficit to three before the final whistle.

But then Gerrato took over in the second half, scoring five times and at one point controlling 7-of-10 draws to get her team back in the game. The Dutchwomen still trailed 8-6 early in the second stanza before a streak of four straight goals off the sticks of Gerrato, Pfohl, Walsh and junior Mallory Toolan that put Union up 10-8 with 15:23 remaining.

After Stevens scored to get within a goal, Cronin responded less than a minute later with her third of the game, followed up by Gerrato's fifth and Pfohl's second that secured the lead. Three more tallies later in the half helped to seal the victory.

Union outshot Stevens 23-9 in the second half to fuel the comeback, finishing the game with a 35-20 edge in shots overall, and also controlled 20-of-29 draws.

Junior Ellie Taney made five saves to earn the victory between the pipes for the Dutchwomen.

Union will get back into Liberty League play on Saturday with a matchup at Skidmore College beginning at noon.
