Poisson's 16 Saves Not Enough at Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Despite a 16-save effort by junior goalie Heather Poisson, the Union College field hockey team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology by a 3-1 score in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Poisson did her best to keep Union (1-2) close, turning aside 10 shots in the first half and six more in the second. The 16 saves are the fourth-highest of Poisson's career and the most since a career-best 22 stops against Hartwick College on October 3, 2017.

Union hung with Stevens (3-3) for three of the four quarters, but the Dutchwomen's demise came in the second quarter, when the visitors were outshot by an 18-2 margin and gave up a pair of goals. Poisson made nine saves to keep her team in the game, but goals in the 28th and 30th minute gave the home team a 2-0 lead at the half.

The two teams both took 10 shots in the second 30 minutes of action, with Union putting nine shots on target to Stevens' seven. Junior Cici Lyne broke up the shutout bid with 3:46 remaining, by notching her second goal of the year from freshman Jill Bove. For Bove, it is the newcomer's first collegiate point.

For the game, Stevens posted a 30-16 edge in shots and also took 18 penalty corners to Union's six.

The Dutchwomen will return to action on Wednesday, when the team hosts Morrisville State College beginning at 6 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
