Field Hockey Dominates Morrisville in 4-2 Win

Video Highlights

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. –
Four different players found the net as the Union College field hockey team used a smothering offensive attack to take down Morrisville State College by a 4-2 score in non-conference action at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Senior Sarah Wilkinson and juniors Cici Lyne, Abby Torgerson and Katie Talacci all scored for Union (2-2), which outshot the Mustangs by a decisive 22-3 margin and held a 14-2 edge in penalty corners on the night. Freshman Caroline Werner also continued to rack up the assists with two more helpers, giving her a team-leading five on the season.

The Dutchwomen dominated play in the opening quarter, barely letting the ball past midfield and keeping the Morrisville defense on their heels. The attack did not result in any scoring, however, until Wilkinson tipped home a pass from junior Laura Wind with less than 20 seconds remaining.

Morrisville managed to tie the game 3:22 into the second quarter, but Union responded 4:03 later when Talacci took a pass from sophomore Cristina Boudreau and sent a long ball past the goalie and into the net in the 24th minute for the game's final lead change.

Lyne gave Union a two-goal cushion in the 37th minute with her third goal of the season, while Torgerson finished off the Dutchwoman scoring early in the final frame.

Junior Heather Poisson picked up the win in goal for Union, while Morrisville goalie Morgan Dueber kept her team in the game by making 15 saves.

Union will continue non-conference action on Saturday when the team travels to FDU-Florham for a 1 p.m. match.
