Women's Soccer Falls to SLU in Conference Opener

SCHECNECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's soccer team had several opportunities to score with ten shots on goal, but a late goal in the second half from Saint Lawrence eluded the Dutchwomen as they dropped a intense 1-0 match to the Saints in the Liberty League opener at College Park Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • After 83 minutes of scoreless action, the Saints scored the lone goal of the match in the 84th minute when Kira Murphy slotted home into the bottom left corner of the net off a pass from Emily Wade to secure the win for the Saints.
  • Saint Lawrence outshot Union on the day, 19-14. Both Union and Saint Lawrence had 10 shots in the first half, and the Saints outshot the Dutchwomen in the second half 9-4. Junior goalkeeper Alison Sorkenn finished the game with seven saves.
  • Union becomes 3-3 on the season with the loss, and 0-1 in Liberty League play. Saint Lawrence improves to 6-1.
 
WHATS NEXT:
 
The Dutchwomen return to College Park Field for a non-conference game against Westfield State on Wednesday, September 25th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
