PITTSBURGH, Penn. — In a season-opening battle of the Dutchwomen and the Colonials, Robert Morris' defense was too much for the Union offense to handle. The Union College women's hockey team fell to Robert Morris University, 6-1, in Pittsburgh on Friday evening. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The hosts took the lead at 10:00 in the first period, when Mackenzie Kraskowski buried the rebound of Lexi Templeman's shot. RMU Captain Jaycee Gebhard received the secondary assist to start off the game.
• Robert Morris made it a 2-0 game just five minutes later, with Gebhard snapping a one-timer under senior goalie Amelia Murray, from a pass by Templeman.
• Gebhard made it 3-0 later with 8:15 left in the second period, scoring from the rebound of her first shot. Her goal was on the power play.
• The Dutchwomen got on the board in the third period, courtesy of a goal from senior Katelynn Russ on the 5v3 power play. Russ received a pass from sophomore Grace Heiting and shot it from the left circle and trickled it in. Sophomore Katie Sonntag had the secondary assist.
• Robert Morris quickly responded to the Dutchwomen power play goal, with Angelica Diffendal receiving a pass from Joelle Fiala to give a 4-1 lead for the Colonials in with 4:30 left in the third.
• Gebhard secured a hat trick for the game with just a minute left in the game. Gebhard drove into the net and scored from her own rebound to make it 5-1.
• Templeman secured the win to make it 6-1 with a pass from Gebhard on the power play to secure RMU's lead.
• Union was outshot by the Colonials 39-25. Murray started in net, saved 33 shots, and allowed six goals. Murray's counterpart from RMU, Raygan Kirk, only allowed one goal in her first NCAA start.

The Dutchwomen continue their weekend at Robert Morris, playing them again, tomorrow Saturday, September 28th in Pittsburgh. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
