SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior
Salvador Lopez Jr. scored twice as the Union College men's soccer team defeated Castleton University by a 3-2 score on Sunday afternoon at College Park Field.
Lopez scored two goals in the first half to give the Dutchmen the lead headed into halftime after Castleton scored first, while fellow senior
Yasin Dombayci scored on a penalty kick in the second half to secure the win. The Dutchmen improve to 4-0 on the season for the first time since 2017.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Castleton opened up the scoring of the game, with their lone goal of the first half coming in the fifth minute from a goal by Ben Stewart.
- The Dutchmen came alive in the 25th minute, when Lopez Jr. beat multiple defenders in the box to score his team-leading fifth goal on the season and tie the score.
- Lopez Jr. continued to shine offensively by scoring his sixth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 40th minute to give his team the lead.
- Yasin Dombayci scored the eventual game-winning goal in 71st minute on a penalty kick, marking his second on the season. That goal became necessary when the Spartans scored in the final minutes to get back within one goal.
- Union outshot Castleton 14-11 on the day. First-year goaltender Kenyon Pelletier finished the game with seven saves to earn his first career win.

The Dutchmen return to action against Anna Maria in Paxton, Mass. on Tuesday, September 10th. The game is set for 7 p.m.
