STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Union College women's indoor track and field team kicked off the 2020 portion of its schedule on Friday afternoon by facing off with Division I, II and III competition at the non-scoring Wagner College Invitational, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
The Dutchwomen had multiple entries in almost every event as the team started to get back in shape after the winter break, with many freshmen and newcomers earning personal bests.
Freshman
Sheena Wolliston had another good showing in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 8.42 seconds to place eighth in the preliminaries before posting another time of 8.42 seconds in the finals that earned her seventh place. The freshman also earned a top-10 finish in the 200-meter dash, placing ninth in 27.71 seconds.
Junior
Amanda Ashmen had two of the team's best results of the day, placing fifth in the mile (5:38.98) and also taking seventh in the 800 meters (2:37.13).
Sophomore
Steph Heiberger also earned a seventh-place result in the 60-meter hurdles, qualifying for the finals with a preliminary time of 10.74 seconds that broke her own school record.
In the field events, freshman
Olivia Brand soared a personal-best 4.80 meters to take eighth place in the long jump, while classmate
Denesha Lafontant also nabbed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.60 meters.
The Dutchwomen will return to action next Saturday at the Middlebury Winter Classic.
