Dutchmen battle back for 2-2 tie vs. Princeton

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. –
Facing a two-goal deficit in the final five minutes of regulation, the Union College men's hockey team battled back to force a 2-2 tie with Princeton on Friday night at Messa Rink.

Princeton scored the first goal of the game shorthanded midway through the first period. The Tigers then added their second goal while on the power play with less than eight minutes to play in the second period.

After conceding the power-play goal, Union's PK went on to kill the remaining three opportunities that Princeton earned.

With the game nearing an end and it looking like Princeton was going to walk away with the 2-0 win, Anthony Rinaldi scored his sixth goal of the season to get Union on the board.

Less than a minute later, Gabriel Seger scored the game-tying goal. Brandon Estes fired a shot from the point that Seger redirected past Princeton netminder Jeremie Forget.

Despite tying the game up, Union was unable to find the back of the net again and settled for the 2-2 draw.

  • Taylor Brierley blocked a total of six shots in the contest.
  • Darion Hanson made 31 saves and helped Union's penalty kill go 5-for-6 on the night.
