AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Union College baseball team kept the hits coming as the team improved to 4-0 to start the season, earning a 13-3 win over Castleton and a 7-6 win over Capital on Friday at the RussMatt Invitational.
The Dutchmen put up six runs in the first inning of the day to take the early lead over the Spartans. All of Castleton's three runs came in the bottom of the first as the Spartans cut their deficit in half.
However, Union went on to post three runs in both the second and the third innings, with a lone run in the fourth en route to the 13-3 win in seven innings.
The nightcap saw the Capital Crusaders battle back to tie the game in the top of the ninth. However, the Dutchmen pulled through as

Chris Symington once again led the Dutchmen, batting 4-for-7 (.571) between the two games, scoring three runs and batting in two more. All four of his hits were for extra bases as he hit two doubles and two triples to end the day with a 1.429 slugging percentage.
On the mound,
Domenic Nardone earned the win against Castleton, while
Noah VanSickle picked up the save. Nardone threw 4 innings with two earned runs and five strikeouts, while VanSickle pitched the final three innings with only two hits against.
Kevin Dewing pitched the first 3.1 innings against Capital giving up no runs with six strikeouts.
Jason Goldblum pitched the final inning and earned the win for the Dutchmen.
Union returns to the diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader against Alma beginning at 10 a.m. (ET).
