PRINCETON, N.J. — Offense struggled to find a way past the Tigers defense, and Princeton used their home-ice advantage wisely, as the Union College women's hockey team fell to #6 Princeton, on Saturday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Princeton scored first early and was able to capitalize on critical plays to continue their rally into the second, and score two. While the Tigers were left off the board in the third, Union wasn't able to capitalize offensively to score and make the score closer. With the loss, Union falls to 5-20-5 on the year (5-10-3 ECAC), while Princeton continues their strong season at 19-4-1 (14-3-1 ECAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 2:55 1st (Princeton 1-0) | Mariah Keopple skates the puck from the other end and finds Daniella Calabrese at the red line. Calabrese rushes the puck closer to their offensive zone, finds Carly Bullock upfront, who scored early in the first to make it 1-0.
- 5:22 2nd (Princeton 2-0) | Just as the Dutchwomen came off a power play, the Tigers got on the board once more. Maggie Connors gives the puck to Sarah Fillier from the left circle, and Carly Bullock was able to collect the rebound from Fillier's shot to score her second of the game.
- 15:32 2nd (Princeton 3-0) | Bullock was fighting for the puck along the boards and was able to find an open Filler behind her, who proceeded to score on a breakaway with less than five minutes left.
GAME NOTES:
- Princeton had the advantage in shots on goal, 37-13. Senior Haley Shugart led the Dutchwomen in shots individually, with 3.
- Senior Amelia Murray stopped 34 shots in the loss.
