Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Season ends in double OT

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Shortly after having a potential game-winning goal called off, the Union College Dutchmen suffered a loss 2-1 loss in double overtime in game three of the first round of playoffs to Yale on Sunday evening at Ingalls Rink.

For the third-straight game, Union carried a 1-0 lead after the first period. Yale tied the game up early in the second period, and the two teams settled into a stalemate that lasted for nearly 60 minutes.

Union thought they had won it in first two minutes of the second overtime after Gabriel Seger put the puck into the back of the net on a quick rush up the ice. However, the officials waived it off as a Union skater made contact with Yale goaltender Corbin Kaczperski. After a lengthy review, the call on the ice was upheld and the game continued in a 1-1 tie.

Unfortunately, Yale scored less than two minutes later during a scramble in Union's zone. Graham Lillibridge intercepted a clearance attempt and fired a shot that ended the game in favor of the Bulldogs.

Summary
  • Darion Hanson turned in 50 saves in the contest, tying his career best.
  • Yale goaltender Corbin Kaczperski made 20 saves for the Bulldogs.
  • Anthony Rinaldi scored the opening goal of the game, his ninth of the season, coming at the 14:06 mark of the first period.
  • Neither team scored on the power play as Union went 0-for-3 and Yale went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
