Seven new faces join the ranks of Union Hockey

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's hockey coaching staff announced the addition of seven student-athletes to the squad for the 2020-21 season. The first-year class includes five forwards and two defensemen and is one of the most geographically diverse classes in program history. The class is composed of Trevor Adams (Muskegon, Mich.), Ville Immonen (Seinajoki, Finland), Nathan Kelly (South Delta, British Columbia), Gleb Murtazin (Penza, Russia), Nic Petruolo (Neschanic, N.J.), Bram Scheerer (Edina, Minn.) and Tyler Watkins (Hermantown, Minn.).
 
"We're excited to bring in this group of talented student-athletes," head coach Rick Bennett said. "I want to thank assistant coach John Ronan and former associate head coach Jason Tapp for their incredible efforts in adding these young men to the Union Hockey family. We feel that this class has great size, talent, and work effort, and above all, we know they will be a perfect complement to Union Hockey."

Prior to Union: Played in 28 games with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League to end the 2019-20 season … Also played in 18 games with West Kelowna and Salmon Arm during the 2019-20 season, totaling 19 points (8g, 11a) through 49 games between the three teams … Prior to 2019-20, Adams played two seasons with Salmon Arm where he totaled 30 goals and 36 assists through 110 games … Was named Salmon Arm's Most Dedicated Player in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
 
Personal: Graduated with gold chord from Mona Shores High School in Muskegon, Mich., and was a National Honors Society member … Majoring in managerial economics.
 
Ronan on Adams: Trevor's biggest asset is his speed. He is a very quick and tenacious 200-foot player. His high compete level along with his hockey IQ and playmaking ability, allow him to play in multiple situations.
 
 
Ville Immonen • 6-2 • 196 • Forward • Shoots: Left • Seinajoki, Finland • Previous Team: Minot Minotauros (NAHL)
Prior to Union: Played one season with the Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League, where he recorded 11 goals and 30 assists through 48 games in 2019-20 … Prior to coming to the United States he played two seasons in the Finnish Jr. A League, totaling 28 goals and 55 assists over 105 games.
 
Personal: Graduated from Lyseo Vaasa in Vaasa, Finland … Majoring in managerial economics.
 
Ronan on Immonen: Ville is a High IQ, smooth, skilled forward. He is a playmaking center that has tremendous poise, vision and passing ability.

Prior to Union: Played in 60 games with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League in 2019-20 … Registered four goals and 13 assists from the blue line in 2019-20 … Skated in 42 games, totaling four goals and 14 assists, with the Chiefs in 2018-19 after being traded from Powell where he appeared in 15 games to start the season … Made his junior hockey debut in 2017-18 with the Power River Kings, scoring four goals and 10 assists in 57 games.
 
Personal: Graduated from South Delta Secondary in Vancouver … Majoring in liberal arts.
 
Ronan on Kelly: Nathan is an all situation defenseman that plays with great poise. He is an exceptional skater with great hockey sense that make him someone who is difficult for opponents to play against.
 
 
Gleb Murtazin • 6-3 • 205 • Forward • Shoots: Right • Penza, Russia • Previous Team: Amarillo Bulls (NAHL)
Prior to Union: Skated in 23 games for the Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League during the 2019-20 season, where he recorded five goals and 13 assists in 23 games … Tallied 12 goals and 17 assists during the 2018-19 season with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League … Represented his home country of Russia in the Under-18 World Championships, in which he scored one goal in four games.
 
Personal: Majoring in political science.
 
Ronan on Murtazin: Gleb is a big skilled forward that can skate and score. He has a proven track record of production in two of the top junior leagues in North America.
 
 
Nic Petruolo • 6-1 • 190 • Defenseman • Shoots: Right • Neschanic, N.J. • Previous Team: Green Bay Gamblers (USHL)
Prior to Union: Skated in 45 games with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League in 2019-20, in which he produced one goal and eight assists from the blueline … During the 2018-19 season he played in 32 games for the Jamestown Rebels and eight games for the Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League.
 
Personal: Graduated from Princeton Day School in Princeton, N.J. … Played two years of golf in high school … Majoring in economics.
 
Ronan on Petruolo: Nic is a smart, hardnosed defenseman that will be difficult to play against. He skates very well and possesses a heavy shot from the point and can be relied on in all situations.
 
 
Bram Scheerer • 6-3 • 200 • Forward • Shoots: Left • Edina, Minn. • Previous Team: Minnesota Wilderness (NAHL)
Prior to Union: Skated with the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League in 2019-20, registering 34 points (14g, 20a) through 37 games … Played the 2018-19 season with the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League, producing eight goals and eight assists in 57 games … Made his junior hockey debut in 2017-18 with the Minnesota Magicians of the NAHL.
 
Personal: Graduated from Edina High School in Edina, Minn. … Played football in high school … Majoring in economics.
 
Ronan on Scheerer: Bram has size, speed and skill that make him a difficult player to contain. A versatile forward that can play center or wing, Bram is a very smart hockey player that can shoot the puck.

Prior to Union: Played two full seasons with the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League … Skated in 52 games with the Wilderness in 2019-20, scoring 17 goals and 25 assists … In 2018-19 he totaled 11 points (3g, 8a) in 49 games with the club … Made high junior hockey debut after graduating high school, skating in eight games for the Wilderness in 2017-18.
 
Personal: Graduated from Hermantown High School in Hermantown, Minn. … Played lacrosse and football in high school … Majoring in psychology.
 
Ronan on Watkins: Tyler is smart and competitive with a shoot first mentality. His offensive IQ and poise, coupled with his ability to one time a puck, make him a scoring threat.
