Sophie Matsoukas stopped 38 shots in her first collegiate start as Union fell to Syracuse 5-0.
Neither team scored in the first period. Syracuse lit the lamp twice in the second period to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Syracuse scored at the 4:58 mark in the second. Syracuse made it 2-0 on a breakaway at the 13:55 mark of the second period.
In the third period, Syracuse added three more goals to extend their lead and win 5-0 for their first win of the year. Syracuse out shot Union 43-21 for the game. Union went 0-2 on the power-play and 4/5 on the penalty kill.
The Dutchwomen (2-3-0, 0-2-0) will get back to work when they host Mercyhurst for a weekend series this Friday and Saturday at Messa Rink
