SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team battled the Mercyhurst University Lakers to a 5-0 loss Saturday afternoon.
Union (2-4-0) generated plenty of chances in the first period, firing 13 shots at the Laker net. None of those shots found the back of the net, however, as the the teams went into the locker rooms knotted at zero.
In the second period Mercyhurst scored three times to gain the lead and ultimately cruise to a 5-0 win. The final two goals came in the third period and one of them on the advantage. Union would not score on four chances on the power-play, and went 3-4 on the penalty kill.

Sophie Matsoukas made 31 saves in a losing effort.
Union will get back to action tomorrow, when the Dutchwomen drop the puck at 1 p.m. at Messa Rink against the Lakers to cap off a weekend series.
