SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College women's volleyball team fell to host Skidmore College in straight sets on Wednesday night, dropping a 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-13) decision in Liberty League action at the Williamson Center.
Sophomore
Morgan Bohlke led Union (4-13, 0-5 Liberty League) with eight kills and six digs on the evening, followed by junior
Sofia Barth and first-year
Farah Elgala with five kills apiece. Junior
Haley Kresch added a team-best 21 assists for the Dutchwomen as well.
Skidmore (10-10, 3-2 Liberty League) did not do much more than Union offensively, putting down just 27 kills to Union's 25. However, the home team recorded 15 service aces and also registered nine blocks in the victory.
The Thoroughbreds used an 8-1 run to take early control of the first set, then closed with a 12-3 stretch to take the early lead. Union recorded six straight points (including three Bohlke kills) to even the second set at 13 after Skidmore again started quickly, but a quick 5-1 run put the home team back in front for good. Skidmore used another big run to take control of the third set, scoring 13 straight points to break an 8-all tie.
Union will return home to Viniar Athletic Center for the first time in more than three weeks on Saturday to host Plattsburgh State and St. John Fisher in a tri-match beginning at noon.
