Celeste Beaudoin scored in the effort for the Dutchwomen.
Suitor opened the scoring when she scored off a rebound. That shot coming from Junior
Emily King and gave Union the 1-0 lead. Senior
Grace Heiting was also credited with an assist on the goal. Mercyhurst would answer back at the 11:41 mark of the first period. This evened the score up at 1-1.
Neither team scored in the second frame, and it was not until Chantal Ste-Croix scored at the 2:07 mark in the third period that the score became 2-1 Mercyhurst. Just under eight minutes later, Beaudoin potted her second goal of the year, tying the game at 2-2. Beaudoin scored on a slick feed from sophomore
Josie McLeod and finished off the 2 on 1. First-year
Ashley Adams had the second assist on the game tying goal.
The game would ten head to the first overtime Union has experienced in the season. Union had a golden opportunity when the Lakers went to the box twice for hooking, making it a 5-3 for the Dutchwomen. Union was not able to find the back of the net. The game would ultimately end in a 2-2 tie.
Sophomore
Olivia Rinzel stopped 25 shots in the draw. Union went 0-3 on the powerplay and was a successful 2-2 on the penalty kill.
The Dutchwomen (2-4-1, 0-2-0) will get back on the ice when #8 Providence College comes to Messa Rink for a 6 p.m. puck drop Friday, October 22
