ITHACA, N.Y. – The Union Collee women's soccer team traveled to Ithaca to take on the Bombers. Union lost 3-2 in overtime versus the Bombers.
Sophomore
Amanda Sgueglia led the charge for the Dutchwomen. She potted both goals on the losing effort this afternoon. Senior
Emma Schleimer added an assist in the match as well.
Union jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a shot from Squeglia that found the back of the net, this goal came in the 15
th minute. That lead would hold until the end of the first half. Union was out shot by Ithaca 4-2 in the first half.
In the second half, Ithaca broke through for their first goal of the game. The goal came at the 54th minute on a cross that was headed in by Kelsey Espenhorst, this tied the game at 1. Sgueglia would score just 12 seconds late for her second goal of the game and gave Union the lead back, 2-1. The Bombers were not done though, they would score 10 minutes later, in the 65
th minute to even things up at 2. This match would have to be solved in overtime. In the 102
nd minute, Ithaca jumped on a loose ball that popped put of a net front scramble and scored to win the game in overtime, 3-2 the final
Union was out shot 21-11 for the game, and junior
Abby Mitty made 8 saves in the match.
The Dutchwomen (5-7-2, 2-3-1) will get back to work next Saturday when they host Clarkson at College Park Field for a 3 p.m. kick off.
