MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore
Grace Krebs recorded her first career multi-goal game by scoring the first and last goals in Union College's 4-2 victory over Morrisville State College in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday afternoon at Drake Field.
Krebs was all over the field for Union (6-8), taking a game-high seven shots and putting five on goal, including the two that found the back of the net. Senior
Emma Davis and junior
Emily Dawson both scored for the Dutchwomen as well, as the visitors scored once in each quarter to secure the win.
Union opened the scoring with 5:46 remaining in the first quarter. Dawson came down the far wing on a two-one-one break and slipped the ball across the goal mouth to Krebs, who made a nifty redirection from close range into an empty net for her second goal of the year.
The Dutchwomen doubled their lead with 60 seconds left in the second stanza, when sophomore
Sophie Ruhl intercepted an outlet pass and sent a ball forward to Dawson for a one-timer, the junior's team-leading 11th tally of the season.
The visitors continued their trend of scoring once per quarter 3:23 into the third, when first-year
Kristen O'Shea sent a long ball from midfield all the way forward to Davis, who took the pass and snuck the ball into the near corner for her fourth tally of the season.
Morrisville scored twice in the fourth quarter to make it a game, but Krebs struck again with 5:07 left to regain a two-goal advantage. Junior
Caroline Werner had her initial shot saved, but she corralled the rebound and fired it toward the net, where Krebs gained possession and cut across the goal mouth to score.
Union finished the game with a 19-5 edge in shots and also took 10 penalty corners to Morrisville's two. Senior
Gabriella Stein made two saves to pick up the victory in goal for Union.
The Dutchwomen will close out the Liberty League slate this weekend beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. when Skidmore College comes to Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
