SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team hosted the Saints of St. Lawrence University at Messa Rink, Saturday afternoon. The Saints power-play proved to be a difference maker as the Saints scored three times in the first period on the advantage.
St. Lawrence started the scoring with a goal at the 7:27 mark of the first period. This goal coming on the power-play and made the Saints lead 1-0. St. Lawrence would tally just over two minutes later on the power-play again. The Saints would add a third power-play goal with two and half minutes to go in the period to jump out to a 3-0 lead after one period.
In the second period, St. Lawrence would add their fourth and final goal of the game. Union had a couple of strong opportunities in the second and third periods, but could not find the back of the net.
Union went 0-8 on the power-play and were 3-6 killing penalties in the game. Sophomore goaltender
Olivia Rinzel made 24 stops in the loss.
Union (2-8-1, 0-4-0) will hit the road next week as they travel to Quinnipiac University for a Friday evening game. Puck drops at 6 p.m. in Hamden, C.T.
