SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team welcomed Cornell University to Messa Rink, Friday evening. Union was shut out 3-0.
After a scoreless first period, Cornell broke through first. Cornell capitalized on a loose puck and fired it into the open goal, following a net front scramble. This tally came at the 3:38 mark of the second period. Union would have two great chance to even things up. Senior
Cassidy Michalicka had a 2-on-1 with Junior
Carmen Merlo and Union was not able to get the shot off. Sophomore
Josie McLeod had a breakaway a couple minutes later, but was not able to find the back of the net either.
In the third period, Cornell extended their lead to 2-0, when they scored just seconds into a power-play. This came at the 6:10 mark. Cornell would tally for a third time six and half minutes later. Cornell would win by a final of 3-0 over Union.

Olivia Rinzel made 30 saves. Sophomore
Hope Crisafi made 2 saves when she made her collegiate debut in the third period. Union went 0-4 on the power-play and went 2-3 on the penalty kill.
Union (2-11-1, 0-7-0) will get back on the ice Saturday afternoon when they play host to #5 Colgate at 3 p.m. at Messa Rink.
