Strong First Period Pushes #5 Colgate Past Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Colgate University scored four times in the first period to push the Raiders past the Union College women's hockey team, Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. The Dutchwomen lost 7-1.

The Raiders jumped off to a hot start scoring four times in the first period to jump out to a 4-0 lead. They would tally three more times in the second and third period to lead 7-0 over the Dutchwomen.

With under four minutes to play in the third period. Senior Grace Heiting scored on the power-play to end the Colgate shut out. She skated down the boards and along the goal line before firing a shot over the glove of the Raider net-minder and into the top corner. This was Heiting's sixth goal of the season. Junior Emily King and sophomore Celeste Beaudoin added assists on Heiting's tally.

Sophomore goalie Olivia Rinzel made 49 saves in the effort. Union went 1-4 on the power-play and was 2-4 on the penalty kill.
