PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior
Grace Heiting scored twice in the game for the Union College women's hockey team Saturday afternoon, as Union fell to #10 Princeton University 4-2 at Hobey Baker Rink.
Heiting broke the ice for the Dutchwomen at the 5:00 minute mark of the first period. She received a pass form senior
Maia Martinez and with a quick turn, was able to beat the Tigers goalie over her blocker, for the 1-0 lead. Martinez and first-year
Emma Hebert grabbed assists on the goal. Hebert tallied her first collegiate point with the assist on the Heiting goal. Princeton would even things up with just over seven minute to go in the period. Princeton took the lead at the 17:26 mark of the first. Princeton led 2-1 after one period.
In the second period, Princeton found the back of the net for their third unanswered goal. This goal was the Tigers' second power-play goal of the game. This goal was scored at the 6:44 mark of the second period.
In the third period, Princeton scored with 4:34 to go in the period on the advantage. With 25 seconds left in the period Heiting scored her second goal of the afternoon. She puts home the puck after a great pass from junior
Carmen Merlo. This cut the lead to 4-2, but the Dutchwomen had run out of time.
Union was 1-6 on the power-play and 4-7 on the penalty kill. Sophomore goaltender
Olivia Rinzel made 35 saves in the game.
Union (2-10-1, 0-6-0) will play host to Cornell University on Friday, November 12
th, when the Big Red come to Messa Rink. Puck drop is at 6 p.m.
