SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team lost 4-2 to Franklin Pierce University in their final game of the 2021-year, Saturday afternoon at Mess Rink. Seniors

Maren Friday each tallied an assist in the effort.
In the first period, Sonntag started the scoring by deflecting a puck passed the netminder. Michalicka kept the puck in and delivered it to Heiting who took her time surveying options before throwing a pass in front that deflected off of Sonntag into the back of the net. Franklin Pierce would answer Union with just over four minutes to play in the period, with a puck that deflected past Rinzel. Union outshot Franklin Pierce 14-8 in the first.
In the second period, Franklin Pierce scored twice in a span of two minutes to jump out to a 3-1 lead early in the second. Heiting scored her eighth goal of the season just 54 seconds after the Ravens made it 3-1. She let a shot go from the point that found the back of the net through a screen. Michalicka and Friday tallied assists on the goal, making it 3-2. This was as close as Union would get for the remainder of the contest.
In the third period, each team had multiple chances, but it was not until Franklin Pierce scored with 24 seconds left that the game was put out of reach. This made it 4-2 Ravens. Union out shot Franklin Pierce 38-18 in the game. Neither team had any luck on the advantages.
Sophomore
Olivia Rinzel and junior
Hope Crisafi shared time in net this afternoon. Rinzel made 10 saves and Crisfai stopped all four shots she faced.
Union will get back on the ice following the holiday break, when they travel to New Haven, C.T. to take on Yale on January 7th. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.
