SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Union College women's track and field team kicked off the 2021-22 indoor season at the non-scoring Springfield Season Opener on Saturday at Springfield College. The Dutchwomen produced several excellent performances at their first indoor meet in 637 days.Â
Sophomore
Caroline Stanton raced to a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 1:04.51. Senior
Steph Heiberger ran a 10.41 in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles to finish fourth, taking two-tenths of a second off her preliminary time, while sophomore
Allison Malatesta ran a 11:16.18 in the 3000 meters to fifth overall in the race.
Union performed well in the relays, led by a first-place result in the distance medley relay, as the team of Malatesta, sophomore
Sophie Chesnut, and first-years
Caroline Kelly and
Catherine Dacey ran a 15:10.94. The 4x400 relay team of Stanton, sophomore
Alix Barry, and first-years
Gabriella Baratier and
Lauren Armstrong had a good showing as well, finishing in second place with a time of 4:36.80.Â
The Dutchwomen travel to Utica, N.Y. next Saturday, December 11, for the Utica Holiday Classic.Â
