CANTON, N.Y. – St. Lawrence University started the second half with a 5-1 run and Union College was unable to come all the away back as the Dutchwomen fell to the Saints by a 14-12 score in Liberty League women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Hall-Leet Stadium.
Sophomore
Sydney McPartlon led Union (1-1, 1-1 Liberty League) with five points, scoring three goals with two assists. Senior
Lindsay Gerrato and sophomore
Dana Truini both had three goals apiece for the Dutchwomen as well, with Truini going a perfect 3-for-3 from the eight-meter arc.
Jaime Allan led St. Lawrence (2-1, 1-1 Liberty League) with five goals, while Isabel Silvia and Charlotte Powell both had a game-high six points for the Saints.
Gerrato and McPartlon gave Union an early 2-0 lead with goals 1:18 apart, with McPartlon assisting in Gerrato's goal and Gerrato returning the favor on McPartlon's tally. Three straight goals gave St. Lawrence its first lead of the game, and the teams remained in striking distance of one another for the remainder of the half. Down by two with under four minutes to go, goals by Truini and freshman
Anna Smith knotted the score at seven headed into halftime.
Junior
Grace Heiting netted her second goal of the game to match an Allan tally and tie the score at eight with 23:16 left in the second stanza. But after five minutes of scoreless play, Callie O'Neil started a four-goal run for the home team that opened up the largest margin of the day at 12-8 with 12:52 on the clock.
Gerrato and Truini scored exactly 60 seconds apart to get Union back within two (12-10) with 11:16 to go, but the Dutchwomen could do no better than alternate goals the rest of the way to come up just short.
Junior
Jenna Paszek limited SLU to 14 goals for the second straight game, but today it was not enough. The junior made a career-high 13 saves to keep the visitors in the contest.
Union will return to action next weekend with a two-game series against Vassar College, beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. on Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
