SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College field hockey team dropped their first match at home in the 2021 season, falling 3-2 against William Paterson University on Saturday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.

Emily Dawson had a big day for Union (2-2), scoring both of the Dutchwomen's goals. The home team jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the third quarter, but the Dutchwomen could not hold its advantage as the Pioneers scored the final three goals of the contest.
Union got on the board first in the 10th minute with Dawson's first of the game and second of the season. Junior
Eliza Munns chipped a pass through three defenders to a wide-open Dawson, who knocked the goal home for the score.
That goal was the only goal of the opening 30 minutes, as senior
Heather Poisson turned aside all four shots she faced to keep the home team ahead.
Dawson wasn't finished and added her second tally of the game early in the third quarter. Senior
Emma Davis launched a pass from the top of the arc to Dawson, who beat the goalkeeper for the score, her team leading third goal of the season.
The visiting Pioneers poured on the pressure after Dawson's second goal, registering eight shots and taking 10 penalty corners in the frame. Alicia Mitchell scored two goals in less than five minutes to knot the score heading into the fourth quarter, while the game-winning goal came off the stick of Megan Hoopes less than three minutes into the final stanza.
Poisson continued to keep Union in the contest in the second half, putting together another solid game in net with 13 saves.
Union will return to action next Saturday when the Dutchwomen host FDU-Florham at 1 p.m.
