Dutchwomen Draw Against Knights 1-1

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - For the second day in a row the Union College women's soccer team battled late into overtime. But unlike yesterday, there was no winner on Sunday afternoon in a 1-1 draw between the Dutchwomen and Mount Saint Mary College at College Park Field.

Senior Erin O'Shea had the lone goal of the game for Union, which dominated in nearly every aspect of the game except for the score. The Dutchwomen outshot the Knights by a 28-3 margin and held a 15-2 edge in corner kicks, but needed a goal in the final 10 minutes to pick up the tie.

The Dutchwomen had control of the action for the majority of the first half, but it was Mount St. Mary that struck first when Caroline Schrag finished a cross through the box in the 40th minute from Darla Petricca, who had gotten behind the Dutchwomen defense. Union outshot Mount Saint Mary 7-2 in the opening half but went into the half down by a goal.

The second half was once again dominated by the Dutchwomen and eventually they were rewarded. Shea tapped in a cross from senior Emma Schleimer in the 81st minute that tied the game at one. The Dutchwomen had 14 shots in the second half compared to just one from the Knights.

In overtime it was more of the same from the Dutchwomen, outshooting the Knights 7-0 in the extra frames. Despite several good chances, the Dutchwomen were unable to find the back of the net in the extended period and settled for the tie.

Union plays again on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the Dutchwomen take on Middlebury College at College Park Field.
