SCHENECTADY N.Y. - The Union College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2021 season to Middlebury College on Tuesday night, falling by a 2-0 score at College Park Field.
Junior goalkeeper Abby Mitty made nine saves in the game to keep the Dutchwomen in the game, but the home team was outshot by a 24-2 margin on the night.
Middlebury broke the scoreless tie in the 29th minute when Fanny Lodge scored on a cross from teammate Gretchen McGrath. The Panthers dominated play for most of the opening half and finished the frame outshooting the Dutchwomen 12-0.
The Panthers extended their lead in the 63rd minute, when a ball bounced around in the box and Elizabeth Peebles kicked in the loose ball. That goal made the lead 2-0 in favor of the Panthers and that score would hold.
The Dutchwomen (1-1-1) look to get back in the win column when they go on the road to take on Plattsburgh State University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
