Union Cruises Past Keuka in Home-Opening Win

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Four different players found the net as part of a dominant offensive and defensive effort as the Union College field hockey team picked up its second victory of the season with a 4-0 win over Keuka College on Wednesday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.

Seniors Emma Davis and Katherine Sadak as well as juniors Emily Dawson and Jill Bove all scored for the Dutchwomen in the victory, as Union (2-1) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

Davis opened the scoring in the third minute when a penalty corner came up top to junior Isabel Lubin, who fired a shot toward goal that Davis tipped home for the first goal of her collegiate career. That looked to be the only goal of the first quarter until the home team struck again in the waning seconds, with Dawson tapping home a pass across the crease by sophomore Sophie Ruhl. The goal resulted in the first career points for both players.

Sadak provided the only goal of the second stanza, putting home a feed from sophomore Grace Krebs for her first goal of the year. The Dutchwomen went into halftime with that three-goal lead while outshooting Keuka 11-1.

The scoring chances slowed down for Union in the second half, but the home team still dominated in the shots column by a 9-1 margin. Bove put a cap on the scoring at the 55:18 mark, scoring off a feed from Ruhl for her team-leading second goal of the season.

Seniors Heather Poisson and Gabriella Stein split time in goal for Union on the afternoon, with Poisson seeing no action in the first half and Stein stopping the only on-target chance she faced in the second half.

Union will return to action on Saturday, when the Dutchwomen host William Paterson University beginning at 1 p.m.
