#5 William Smith Tops Union 5-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's soccer team fell to the #5 Herons of William Smith College by a final score of 5-0  in a Liberty League match up, on Friday afternoon from College Park Field. The goaltending pair of senior Abby Mitty and first-year Rachel Berliner combined for 13 saves on the afternoon.

The Herons jumped out to a 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the contest and didn't look back. The Herons added a second goal in the 20th minute to lead 2-0. Mitty made seven saves in the half.

In the second half it was more of the same from William Smith. They added three more goals in the frame. Union's best opportunity came in the second half. Following a blocked clear from the Herons, senior Liz DiCecco ran down the field. Her shot was stopped on the partial breakaway. Berliner made six stops in the effort.

Union (8-3-1) will get back on the field tomorrow when they celebrate their seven seniors against the Bombers of Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon. Kick off from College Park Field is set for 2 p.m.
