CANTON, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey battled with ECAC opponent St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon from Appleton Arena. The Saints scored in the final seconds of the third period to secure a 1-0 win over Union.
Sophomore
Sophie Matsoukas was excellent in net once again making 35 stops on 36 shots in the game.
It took almost all 60 minutes to decide a winner, but Julia Gosling of St. Lawrence was able to finally beat Matsoukas and score with 1.6 seconds remaining in the game, to push the Saints past Union.
Union out shot St. Lawrence 20-16 through two periods, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Saints turned on the pressure in the third period, our shooting Union 20-6 in the third, including seven shots on a power-play. The Saints found the back of the net as time expired in the third period.
Union went 0-3 on the power-play, but was a perfect 2-2 on the penalty kill. Junior
Celeste Beaudoin was 9-17 from the face off dot.
Union will return home and continue ECAC play when they welcome Harvard to Messa Rink. Puck drop for that game is slated for 6 p.m.
