Dutchwomen Fall to Ravens in OT, 4-3

WINCHENDON, MASS. – The Union College women's hockey team fell 4-3 in overtime to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University on Friday evening from Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. The Dutchwomen battled back from a 3-1 deficit but fell with 30 seconds left in overtime.

Sophomores Maddie Suitor, Ashley Adams, and Maren Friday all scored for Union. Senior Emily King registered two helpers in the game. Friday, junior Celeste Beaudoin, and sophomore Emma Hebert also tallied assists in the game.

The Ravens scored in the opening frame on the breakaway to grab a 1-0 lead.

Union evened things up at the 7:31 mark of the second period with a short-handed goal. Hebert fired a shot from the point and Suitor buried the rebound past the Raven's net minder to tie the game.

Minutes later the Ravens grabbed the lead to jump back out front with a short-handed goal of their own. The Ravens extended their lead just four minutes into the third period.

The Dutchwomen cut into the lead with a goal at the 8:02 mark. Adams forced a turnover in the offensive zone and skated the puck around the net. She centered the pass to King, whose one timer was saved. Friday's second chance shot was saved and she passed the rebound to Adams. Adams was positioned in the slot and beat the goalie over the blocker. This was Adams' fourth goal of the season.

Union tied the game with 3:50 left on the clock. Beaudoin won the offensive zone face off cleaning back to Friday. Friday faked her initial shot and skated past two defenders and ripped a shot back the goalie to tie the game at 3-3. This was Friday's fourth goal of the season.

Three periods were not enough for both of the teams, as they head to overtime. Neither team had lost in overtime heading in. Union was 3-0-1 and Franklin Pierce was 2-0-1.

Union had a power-play opportunity but managed only one shot on the player advantage. The Ravens capitalized on a quick transition and scored with just 30 seconds left in the overtime period, to grab the win.

Union's penalty continued to shine, posting a perfect 7-7 and a short-handed goal. The power-play struggled, going 0-6 and allowing a short-handed goal. Sophomore Sophie Matsoukas stopped 23 of 27 shots for the game. King was Union's best skater from the dot going 13-20.

Union (8-9-1, 3-5-1) well look for a weekend split tomorrow afternoon as they skate against the Ravens again from Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Puck drop slated for 3 p.m.
