CANTON, N.Y. – Despite a pair of victories each from junior
Marilena Karadimou and sophomore
Gracie Nicol, the Union College women's tennis team fell short to St. Lawrence University by a 6-3 score in the team's 2022 spring opener on Sunday afternoon at Newell Field House.
Nicol and Karadimou played a role in all three Union (1-2, 1-2 Liberty League) wins on the day. The pair started the afternoon by teaming up for an 8-3 victory at first doubles over Lillian Sullivan and Elena Styliades. Karadimou completed her undefeated day by posting a 6-4, 6-3 win over Caitlyn Avery at third singles, while Nicol followed soon after with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) first-singles win over Sullivan.
Three players posted a pair of wins each for St. Lawrence (2-0, 1-0 Liberty League), as Catherine Gamble, Meredith Macey and Emily Harris combined for three singles and two doubles victories.
Union will take some time away from competition before heading south for Spring Break, where the team is scheduled to play four matches in three days beginning on March 21 against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
