SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team lost to Brown University 6-1 at Messa Rink on Friday evening. Senior
Cassidy Michalicka scored the lone goal in the loss for Union.
After falling behind 3-0 to the Bears, Union was able to pull within two following a slashing penalty to Brown. Junior
Olivia Groulx carried the puck into the neutral zone before handing off to senior
Grace Heiting who made a great pass to Michalicka. Michalicka took a shot from the far-left circle and was able to beat the net minder on the far side to cut the Brown lead to 3-1. This goal was Michalicka's first of the season and came on the power-play. Heiting tallied her fifth assist of the season and Groulx her second.
The Bears would tally once more in the second before scoring twice in the third to seal the win.
Union went 1-2 on the player advantage and went 1-2 on the penalty kill. First-year
Sophie Matsoukas made 18 saves in the loss.
The Dutchwomen will get back on the ice Saturday afternoon for a 3 p.m. puck drop at Messa Rink. Tomorrow's game is the Dutchwomen's Pride game.
