Special Teams Push #9 Yale Past Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - #9 Yale University's special teams scored five combined goals on the power-play and penalty kill against the Union College women's hockey team Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. Union lost 7-0 First-year Sophie Matsoukas and sophomore Hope Crisafi shared time in the net.  

Yale scored twice in the first period. In the second period, Union had a couple of great chances but were un able to find the back of the net including a breakaway from sophomore Josie McLeod that caught the post as she beat the net minder clear over her blocker. Yale would tally four times in the second period to jump out to a 6-0 lead.

In the third period, Union added pressure with multiple chances on an early power-play but were unable to score. The Bulldogs scored once more to add to their lead. 

Matsoukas made 19 saves in the game before Crisafi relieved her and stopped 11 pucks. Union went 0-5 on the power-play and 2-5 on the penalty kill.

Union will hit the road and travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on Yale once again on Tuesday, February 8. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Ingalls Rink.
