#7 Yale Outlasts Union, 3-2

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The Union College women's hockey team gave #7 Yale University all they could handle Tuesday evening at Ingalls Rink. Yale scored 23.6 seconds left to push themselves past Union 3-2.

Senior Cassidy Michalicka and junior Emily King scored the goals for Union. First-year Sophie Matsoukas was great in net stopping 34 shots in the effort for the Dutchwomen.

After a scoreless first period, Union broke the ice first. Michalicka found the back of the net on the power-play to give Union a 1-0 lead. Michalicka one timed a blocked shot and one timed the puck past the goaltender's right shoulder and down off the crossbar. Sophomore Celeste Beaudoin and junior Olivia Groulx earned assists on her second goal of the season.

King extended Union's lead to 2-0. King gathered in a pass from first-year Maddie Suitor and quickly drove to the net before dangling to her left and tucking the puck under the net minder's extended leg. Junior Carmen Merlo and Suitor tallied assists on King's third of the season. Yale cut Union's lead in half minutes later making it 2-1.

In the third period, Yale would tie things up with 9:36 remaining in the third period. Yale would grab their first lead of the game with just 23.6 seconds left in the game.

Union went 1- 3 on the power-play and on 4-4 the penalty-kill.

The Dutchwomen will hit the road and travel to #8 Colgate for a matchup at Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton, N.Y. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.
