DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Union College baseball team picked up a pair of wins over Keuka College on Sunday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Dutchmen won game one 7-4, before erupting for 15 runs in a 15-3 victory in game two.
GAME 1: Union 7, Keuka 5
First-year
Dan Sheeran led the Dutchmen offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate, including an RBI double, and scoring two runs. Junior transfer
Jono Santos registered his first hit in a Union jersey, an RBI single that brought home two runs.
After two scoreless innings to begin the game, Keuka got on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the third inning. Union responded in the bottom half of the frame, scoring five runs to take a 5-2 lead. The Dutchmen rattled off three singles in a row to load the bases before sophomore
Kobe Mentzer drew a walk to bring in the first run. With the bases still loaded and one out, senior
Jack DiNanno walked to tie the game at two. Santos brought home two runs with an RBI single and junior
Dan Choate followed up with a single to bring home the fifth run in the frame.
Keuka added another run in the fifth inning when Ryan Seales registered his second triple of the game to bring home Nick Brown.
Union added two more runs, unearned, in the sixth inning to make it a 7-3 game. Choate reached first on an error and advanced to second on a SAC bunt from junior
Jack Davis. Sheeran launched an RBI double before scoring Union's seventh run off a single by Mentzer.
Keuka came within striking distance, adding two more runs in the seventh inning. With the game-tying runs at the plate and two outs, a ground out to second base sealed the victory for the Dutchmen.
Junior
Ben Mlavsky earns his first win of the season, fanning 10 batters through five innings, surrendering three runs on two hits, and walking one. Sophomore

GAME 2: Union 15, Keuka 3
Twelve different Dutchmen collected a hit while ten different players scored a run. Sophomore
Sebastian Pike helped lead Union at the plate went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring two runs, while first-year
Sam Strazza came off the bench, going 2-for-2 at the plate, with an RBI and two runs scored. Mentzer and Choate combined to drive in six runs, while first-year
Hunter Zienowicz and sophomore
Thomas Parisi drove in a pair.
The Dutchmen took an early lead in the first inning and never looked back. Parisi reached base and advanced to second on an error. Two batters later, Mentzer recorded a sac fly to score Parisi for the first run of the game. DiNanno kept the inning going, drawing a walk and advancing on a wild pitch before Nash brought him home on a single to center field.
After Keuka got on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI groundout, both starters pitched a scoreless third inning before the Dutchmen broke the game open in the fourth.
After a hit by pitch and a double opened the inning, Choate drove in the pair with a single to right field to make it a 4-1 game. Following a walk and a bunt to advance the runners, Parisi singled to center field to plate two more runs. Union's fifth run of the game came after Mentzer doubled to left field to take a 7-1 lead.
The lone Keuka run in the bottom of the fourth was answered with two more runs in the top of the fifth. The Dutchmen scored three runs in each of the final two innings, while only surrendering one run in the sixth to roll to a 15-3 win.
First-year
Chris Suter earned his first career win, pitching six strong innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits and striking out five against two walks. Junior
Harry Azadian worked a scoreless seventh inning to close out the game.
The Dutchmen turn their attention to Elmhurst for a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale.
