ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Union College baseball team dropped the series opener at Bard College, 13-4, Friday afternoon at Honey Field.
Senior
Jack DiNanno went 2-for-5 with two runs scored while sophomore
Sebastian Pike added two hits and a run scored to lead the Dutchmen.
Union opened the scoring in the first inning when junior
Jono Santos double down the left field line to score DiNanno. Bard knotted the game up in the bottom of the frame.
After two scoreless innings, the Dutchmen plated two more runs in the top of the fourth. Pike singled through the left side to open the frame and stole second. After junior
Jack Davis drew a walk to put runners on first and second, a pair of wild pitches brought home a run and put Davis on third. Another wild pitch later in the inning gave Davis time to cross home to make it a 3-1 game.
Bard racked up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-3 lead before adding another three runs in the fifth to make it a five-run game. A leadoff homerun in the sixth sparked a five-run inning for Bard, who took a 13-3 lead after the sixth.
Union added one more run in the ninth when senior
Colby Nash hit a sac fly to left field to score DiNanno.
Sophomore
Bryce Fournier (0-4) is tagged with the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits, and three strikeouts in four innings. Evan Matthews earned the win for Bard, surrendering two runs on one hit with four walks and one strikeout in 1.1 innings.
Union will host Bard for a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Shuttleworth Park.
