SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College softball team's six game winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon at the hands of the Engineers of RPI from Alexander Field. RPI won both games by a final of 11-2 and 8-0.
Junior
Olivia Valery went 3-5 in the double header. She had two singles and a double. First-year
Faith Hughes had a pair of RBIs in game one.
Game One: RPI 11, Union 2 (6 innings)
Both teams had chances to open the game with the lead, but neither were able to break through until RPI did in the top of the third inning. The Engineers scored four runs on six hits, to jump out 4-0. RPI added another run in the fifth before rallying off six runs in the sixth inning to jump out to a 11-0 lead.
The Dutchwomen broke through on the score sheet in the bottom of the sixth. Hughes hot a two run double down the left field line, scoring classmate
Nahnny Sobetzko and senior
Rochelle Nuqui. Cut into the lead making it 11-2. The Dutchwomen were not able to generate any more runs n the inning and fell 11-2 in 6 innings.
Junior Amanada Granato (8-5) was tabbed with the loss from the circle. She allowed four runs on eight hits in three innings of action. Nuqui entered in the fourth inning and finished the game. She allowed seven runs on eight hits.
Game Two: RPI 8, Union 0
Just like in game one, both teams fought for the first run. RPI gave themselves a lead in the third inning. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the inning. The Engineers scored two runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings of game two. They won 8-0.
Granato (8-6) was credited with the loss for the Dutchwomen. She allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out one in five innings. Valery appeared in her first game of the season. She struck out three, while allowing four runs on three hits in two innings of action.
The Dutchwomen (16-10, 2-8) will finish off the home stand on Sunday afternoon. They will honor seniors
