SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Fourteen different players found the net as top-ranked Middlebury College overwhelmed the Union College women's lacrosse team in a 19-2 non-conference victory on Tuesday evening at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
Jane Earley led all players with four points and Susan Rowley added three goals for Middlebury (10-0), which ran its winning streak to 35 games dating back to the 2019 season. Junior
Drew Charlton and first-year
Greta Maurer had the goals for Union (2-5).
The Panthers came out of the gates hot, scoring five goals in the first four-plus minutes to take control of the game early. The visitors added four more to take a 9-0 lead after one quarter, but the Union defense limited them to just three goals in both the second and third stanzas.
Maurer got Union on the board with 8:41 remaining in the third quarter, and Charlton followed up with 3:38 left to make the score 15-2 after 45 minutes. The Panthers added four unanswered goals in the fourth frame to account for the final score.
The Union defense was tested all night long against Middlebury's potent offense. Senior
Elizabeth Hernberg led the team with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while senior
Jenna Paszek and sophomore
Hannah Dubinsky combined to make nine saves between the pipes.
Union will face its fourth nationally ranked foe of the season (and third in as many games) on Friday, when the team gets back into Liberty League play against #17 St. Lawrence University beginning at 4 p.m. in Schenectady.
