Alyssa Treanor Named Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge of the Capital District as both a player and coach, Alyssa Treanor has been named the new head coach of the Union College women's lacrosse team, Director of Athletics Jim McLaughlin '93 announced on Tuesday.

Treanor is no stranger to Schenectady, having previously worked for five seasons as an assistant coach with the Union women's lacrosse program. She spent three years with the Dutchwomen in 2016-18 before returning to the sidelines for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, working primarily with the team's attackers and draw specialists.

"I'm so excited to be the head women's lacrosse coach at Union College," Treanor said. "I have to thank Jim McLaughlin and the entire search committee for this opportunity. Union College is a place where the student-athletes can excel in the classroom, the community and on the field, and it feels great to be back with the Union family. I look forward to competing and growing the program to new heights."

"We are very excited to welcome Alyssa back to Union College as our next head women's lacrosse coach," McLaughlin said. "The connection to her student-athletes and her familiarity with Union clearly resonated through each step of the interview process and will suit her well in this role. I look forward to working with Alyssa to help our student-athletes succeed both on and off the field."

Treanor most recently served as head coach of the women's lacrosse program at Russell Sage College, guiding the team through the challenging Empire 8 Conference in 2022. She led the team to a 5-8 record in her first year at the helm, with three Gators earning weekly Empire 8 Player of the Week honors and a pair earning All-Empire 8 honors at the conclusion of the season.

Active on the local club lacrosse scene, Treanor previously coached for ADK Lacrosse and the Albany Elite Lacrosse Club. Her team won the Harvard Invitational Tournament in the summer of 2015.

As an undergraduate, Treanor was a four-year starter at Siena College and led the Saints to three MAAC playoff appearances. She was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2012 and earned All-MAAC second-team honors in her senior season, when she ranked second on the team in points with 31 goals and nine assists. Treanor ended her career ranked ninth all-time in career points and fifth in career assists at Siena, having recorded 77 goals with 33 assists in four seasons. She graduated from Siena in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in history.

Treanor's roots in the Capital District extend even further back to her time as a three-sport varsity athlete at Niskayuna High School, lettering in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. She made the Section 2 Lacrosse All Star Team and her teams won three sectional lacrosse titles. Her father, Mark, coached boys' basketball at Niskayuna for over 20 years and recently finished his fifth season as an assistant men's basketball coach at Union. Her sister, Kayla, was a member of the U.S. National Team and is the head women's lacrosse coach at Syracuse University.

Treanor will begin her position in July, as the team spends the fall trimester preparing for the 2023 season. The 2023 schedule will be released later this year.
