Saints Stun Union in Final Minute, 1-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – It took nearly all 90 minutes for either team to score a goal, but it was the visiting St. Lawrence Saints that found the back of the net in the 90th minute to stun the Union College men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon from College Park Field.

Both teams found chances to find the back of the net, but both goalies played excellently in the fist half to keep things scoreless. Union had their best chances of the first half in 30th and 31st minutes when they had three shots on goal. Two of them were blocked and sophomore Diego Pascual-Sanchiz was able to have his shot get through to the goalie, but was blocked away.

The second half was more of the same for both teams. In the end of the 89th minute the Saints worked up the field in transition and after a pass into the corner the ball worked its way to the top of the box and the Saints were able to pounce on the loose ball and drive it past a diving Sean Speck. The Saints hung on and earn the conference win over Union.

Union out shot St. Lawrence 12-7 and Speck made one save in the effort for Union.

Union (2-3-1, 0-1-0) will hit the road and head to Henniker, N.H. to take on New England College on Wednesday, September 28. That game kicks off at 6 p.m.
