SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team finished off the fall semester schedule on Friday evening, falling to Skidmore College by an 8-1 score in a Liberty League matchup at Skidmore's Wenger Courts.
The highlight of the night for Union (1-1, 1-1 Liberty League) came from senior
Marilena Karadimou at first singles. After losing the first set 6-1 to Maya Lal, she stayed in the match down 3-5 in the second set before taking it to a tiebreaker, where she saved a pair of match points down 4-6 before coming back for a 9-7 win. She seized on that momentum in the subsequent supertiebreaker, posting a 10-4 victory to earn the win.
Sophomore
Gabby Gatto nearly forced a third set in her third-singles match with Ella Provost, bouncing back from a 6-0 first set to take the second into a tiebreaker before coming up just short, 8-6. First-year
Skylar Semon also came a break short of forcing a third set at sixth singles, falling to Katelyn Corpuz, 6-0, 6-4.
The match closes out Union's fall schedule, as the team will take the next few months to prepare for the upcoming full slate of spring matches that are set to start in February 2023.
