Women's Hockey Blanked by St. Lawrence, 3-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team dropped their third game in row at the hands of the Saints of St. Lawrence 3-0 on Friday evening from Messa Rink. Sophomore Sophie Matsoukas stopped 35 of 38 shots in the loss for Union.

Matsoukas was Union's best player making 16 saves in the third period alone on her way to a 35 save performance.

The Saints found the back of the net just four minutes into the opening frame on a breakaway after a Union turnover at their own blue line. Union was out shot 9-4 in the period and went 0-2 on the power-play.

Neither team found the back of the net and a fairly even period that saw each team have a power-play opportunity, but neither capitalized on the chances.  The Saints doubled their lead just under two minutes into the third period. The Saints put the game away with under ten minutes play in the game with another goal to lead 3-0.

Union was a perfect 2-2 on the penalty kill including killing off a major penalty in the third period to keep the game 3-0. Senior Emily King went 14-27 from the face off circle, while sophomore Paige Greco went 3-4 from the dot.

The Dutchwomen will get back on the ice tomorrow for their Faculty & Staff Appreciation game. Puck drop against #10 Clarkson is set for 3 p.m. from Messa Rink.
