COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Union College men's hockey team fell 6-2 to Colorado College on Saturday night at Ed Robson Arena.
Junior
Caden Villegas extended his scoring streak to three games with his third goal of the season and sophomore
Carter Korpi tallied his second goal of the season.
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead only 1:41 into the game. Evan Werner fired from low in the left-wing circle to get one past sophomore
Kyle Chauvette. Union answered back at 7:20 of the opening period. A shot by senior
Liam Robertson drew Kaidan Mbereko sliding outside of the crease. In the ensuing scramble, the puck landed on the stick of Villegas who lifted it home into the open net.
The second period saw the Tigers score three unanswered to take a 4-1 lead.
Colorado College added a fifth goal at 3:35 of the third period. Union was able to get one back off the stick of Korpi. The sophomore gained possession in the neutral zone before taking the puck into the slot where he fired the wrister for the score. The Tigers added one more goal at 11:45 of the third period.
Sophomore
Kyle Chauvette falls to 1-2 on the season after making 17 saves. Mbereko made 28 stops to improve to 2-0.
Union opens the home portion of the schedule with a two-game series against the University of Connecticut beginning on Friday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Messa Rink.
