Berliner Stops Career-High Nine Shots, Union Falls at #4 William Smith

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College women's soccer team wrapped up a challenging weekend with a back-to-back at two of the top three teams in the Liberty League standings, falling to undefeated William Smith Saturday 2-0.

Seneca Blakely-Armitage scored her third goal of the season on an assist from Ava Ruppersberger just under three and a half minutes into the contest. Just past the 52nd mark, Blakely-Armitage and Ruppersberger traded places, as Ruppersberger netted her fourth goal of the campaign to provide the final.

William Smith totaled 25 shots in the contest, including 11 on goal. For the second straight day, sophomore Rachel Berliner recorded a career-high in saves, this time with nine. Berliner has stopped 25 of the 28 shots she's faced in her last four games, good for an .893 save percentage.

Junior Sam Friedman led the offense with three shots on goal, while first-year Gianna Pentland also put two on net.

Union (6-5-2, 2-3-1) return to action Wednesday, when the Garnet Chargers complete their non-conference schedule when they travel to Clinton to take on Hamilton. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30.
