SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The #2 Yale University Bulldogs scored three goals in a 2:25 span in the first period and never looked back as they cruised to a 10-1 victory over the Union College women's hockey team on Friday evening from Messa Rink. Union saw senior Carmen Merlo find the back of the net.

Merlo scored her fourth goal of the season, setting a new career high in goals. Senior Emily King and sophomore Emma Hebert earned assists on Merlo's goal.

The Bulldogs scored three goals in 2:25 and five in the first period to lead 5-1 after the first 20 minutes.

Merlo scored Union's first goal after King circled the puck from the below the goal line towards the point. She dropped the pass off to Hebert who attacked the net. Her shot was saved, before Merlo buried the loose puck in the crease.

Yale added five more goals over the final 40 minutes as they won 10-1.

Sophomore Sophie Matsoukas and first-year Emily Evans shared time in net. Matsoukas made 7 saves while Evans made 29 saves. Union went 0-3 on the power-play and 2-4 on the penalty kill.

Union will look to rebound from the loss as they host Brown on Saturday, February 4 from Messa Rink. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. as Union
