WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Union College baseball team dropped a 16-9 decision to Williams College in seven innings on Wednesday afternoon at Bobby Coombs Field.
Three different Union players recorded a multi-hit game. First-year
Andrew Keaveney went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while classmate
Liam McIlroy also went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Senior
Jono Santos went 2-for-3.
After junior
Thomas Parisi drew a bases-loaded walk for the 1-0 lead, Keaveney hit a sac fly into left field to give Union a 2-0 lead in the opening frame. Williams responded quickly with four runs in the bottom of the frame.
Williams doubled the lead in the bottom of the third, taking a 14-3 lead.
Union plated six runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to five runs. Junior
Kobe Mentzer drove in a pair of runs on an RBI double to right field. First-year
Caleb Miller scored Union's sixth run on a passed ball. Back-to-back-hits from Keaveney and McIlroy drove in two and senior
Julian Lightburn drove in the ninth run on a sac fly.
Senior
Ben Mlavsky fell to 1-2 on the season after allowing seven runs on five hits in two innings. First-year
Will Collins pitched three complete innings and allowed two runs on two hits and fanned four.
Union is back in action on Friday with game one against Vassar College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Prentiss Baseball Field.
