Men's Tennis Drops Match to Regionally Ranked Hobart

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to regionally ranked Hobart College in Liberty League action on Sunday afternoon at Sportime Tennis Club.

Union (4-6, 2-2 Liberty League) hung with Hobart (9-4, 2-1 Liberty League), which is ranked 19th in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, for many of the matches but was unable to pull out a victory.

The home team won at least four games in all three doubles matches, with the closest coming at the top flight where junior Dimitris Binopoulos and sophomore Ben Jacobs fell by an 8-5 score to Jett Wright and Sean Pesin, who are ranked 11th in the Northeast Region and 14th in Division III by the ITA.

Jacobs nearly took Pesin, who is ranked 22nd in the region as a singles player, to a third-set supertiebreaker in their top flight match before eventually falling by a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) margin. Binopoulos also came up a break short in both sets against Harry Lyu at second singles, falling by the score of 6-4, 6-3.

Union will finish up non-conference play on Thursday with a 4 p.m. matchup at SUNY Oneonta.
